The Mercedes-Benz A-Class Is Coming to Canada. Finally!
Every continent has certain cars that are uniquely theirs. For example, while the Mercedes-Benz A-Class has been in Europe since the late 1990s, the smallest car in the brand’s lineup on this side of the pond is the B-Class. Now, after more than 20 years of existence and four generations, the A-Class is finally coming to America.
Meeting a Need The A-Class will arrive in Canada beginning in the summer of 2018. Why buck the trend favouring SUVs and introduce a small car? The answer, of course, is to meet the needs of urbanites looking for a more compact ride. However, the main objective is first and foremost to get the attention of technology fans. Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Mercedes-Benz, declared the A-Class “a smartphone on wheels.”It’s brimming with technology!
Inside the cabin, it’s both refined and sporty. If it’s anything like the European version, the dashboard will be divided into two seven-inch screens, or into two 10.25-inch displays, depending on the variant you choose. The little A-Class will also be the first model equipped with the new MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system, which will allow the driver and passengers to use artificial intelligence to facilitate certain tasks.
This is a small five-passenger compact car available in hatchback and sedan configurations, although the U.S. market will only get the sedan version for the time being. Its dimensions are similar to those of its cousin, the GLA SUV, but it’s longer and lower than the B-Class.
What drives it? While there are three available engines on the Old Continent, there’s just one expected for Canada. The A 250 will feature a 221-horsepower, turbocharged four cylinder with 4MATIC all-wheel drive available on option.
The A-Class will be here this summer. Although its price has not yet been announced, all signs to seem to point to the most affordable versions retailing for less than $35,000.
